ALLEGATION IN COURT
INTIMIDATION OF WITNESS SUGGESTED When a witness, Mrs Dorothy Mary Margaret Troon, was about to step into the witness box at the City Police Court yesterday to give evidence in the case in which Thomas Gibson Waters, a salesman, was charged with false pretences in connection with a property deal at Burnside, Chief Detective T. Y. Hall said there had been an attempt to intimidate Mrs Troon. A man was alleged to have approached her and told her that she “ would be torn apart by the accused’s solicitors.” The man had been told to keep away from the witness and the court. The magistrate, Mr H. W. Bundle, addressing the witness, said that it had been suggested that some efforts had ben made to intimidate her, but it must be understood that she was bound to give her evidence fairly. Mr I. B. Stevenson, who with Mr J. S D More, appeared for the accused, said they had no knowledge of any attempt at intimidation of the witness until the allegation had been made by the chief detective.
