CHIEF JUSTICE

TAKING OF OATHS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 12. The new Chief Justice, Mr Justice O’Leary, yesterday took the oaths of allegiance and office before Mr Justice Smith, and in the presence of Mr Justice Johnston. The brief ceremony was performed in Mr Justice Smith’s rooms in the Supreme Court, and the Chief Justice then received the congratulations of his fellow judges. There was no public occasion, and the ceremony was formal and private. , Mr Justice O’Leary was later received by the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg.
