WELCOME HOME SOCIALS

The president of the R.S.A. (Mr C. Travis) presided at a smoke concert in honour of Staff Sergeant J. Stevenson, Trooper J. Burgess and Privates Truscott and E. Leith. A toast list was honoured and Mr J. Dungey proposed the toast of file guests of the evening. Items were contributed by Messrs Spittle, Carter, Tipa, Jack, Stevenson, sen. and jun., E. Leith, F. Muscott and J. Bennett.

The Mayor (Mr W. Murcott) presided at a welcome home social to Staff Sergeant Stevenson and Privates Murcott and Leith in the hall on Friday night. The Rev. N. J. Thompson represented the churches and Mr C Travis the R.S.A. The large crowd present enjoyed the dancing to music supplied by Mr G Murphy

RUGBY FOOTBALL The Hampden School football teams had a successful day at Palmerston on Saturday when participating in the seven-a-side tournament for schools in the Eastern Districts. The intermediate team captained by L. Johns secured the cup in its grade by winning every game played. The senior team, captained by Andrews was runner-up to Watkouaiti.
