HIGHER PRICE FOR SILVER
The British price for fine silver, both spot and forward, has been raised from 3s 8d sterling per oz to 4s 7Jd. In New Zealand currency the new price equals about 5s Bd, against about 4s 7d. The increase follows the decision of the United States Treasury to raise its buying and selling price for domestic silver from 71.11 cents per oz td 90.5 cents. Silver has been quoted recently in Bombay, the world's main free market, at about 160 rupees for 100 fine tolas, or approximately 8s Australian per oz. Australian Barrier mines produce about 6.500, 0000 z of silver a year, the whole output having been sold in the Commonwealth in recent months at the rilling English price. The bulk is taken by the The price for platinum has been fixed at £2O per oz.
