NOTES FROM RICCARTON

FINDON RETURNING HOME (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 12. Findon. who won the Islington Handicap, will not be raced this week. He will return home for a short rest before being got ready for spring engagements. The present intention is to bring him back to Riccarton in November for the New Zealand Cup. Dumbo was taken out of the Hunt Cup last week, but it is understood he win be a starter in the Sydenham Hurdles on Saturday. He would have been more welcome in the Lincoln Steeplechase field, but his nomination for that race was overlooked. After Frances won the Woolston Handicap she was taken out of her engagement this week, in the Longbeach Handicap. Her future racing will be done in open company. High Ideal, a six-year-old Foxlight horse, from A. Jenkins's stable at Opaki, has been bought by Mr J. S. Trowbridge, of Greymouth, and he will join John o’ London in C. J. Walsh’s West Coast team. He will race for his new owner on Saturday. Roman Ned. who was lame after the Enfield Steeplechase, is making good progress, and he may be able to run in the Hunt Cup. J. W. Winder was unfortunate' that, as the result of a mishap on the eve of the meeting, he could not ride Bramble Song in the Grand National Hurdles. He is on the mend, and is booked to leave soon for Sydney, to ride the Auckland three-year-old, Lord Barwon. in his Australian classic engagements.

Whitley injured one of his legs while returning home in. a float after the Paparua Handicap, and some time i will elapse before he is fit to race again. A number .of North Island horses will be missing from Saturday’s fields, as some are going home. There may be late changes in plans, but at present arrangements are in hand for Longsword, Imperial. The Grand, Beneve, Bonnie Fair, Revetfr, Rival, and Flahuluk to travel tomorrow night.
