LABOUR PARTY

BRANCH NOTES Seacliff.—Mr W. Murray presided over a large attendance of members. It was reported that the weekly euchre parties had been successful, both socially and financially, and campaign funds had been increased considerably by this means. General matters relating to the conduct of the campaign occupied the greater part of the evening. „ „ , Herßert.—The organiser (Mr J. Meikle) attended the monthly meeting, and outlined the proposed plans for carrying out the campaign in the district. The secretary (Mr J. Hazlett) reported on the drive for funds, and stated that £ls had been collected. Following a general discussion on political topics, Mr S. Forbes (president) thanked the organiser for his interesting address. Waikouaiti.—Mr J. D. Brown presided over a good attendance of members. Following routine business, the meeting was devoted to the preparation of campaign plans. It was decided to congratulate the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, on the proposed 10-year plan of progress for Otago. .. . , Weston.—Mr H. Wilson" presided, and following general business the organiser (Mr J. Meikle) addressed the meeting, dealing with various aspects of the campaign. The secretary, Mr P. Halkett, was congratulated on his enthusiasm in increasing the membership to over 70, the highest in the history of the branch. Ngapara.—A successful Social evening was arranged by the branch, when the Tonics Concert Party provided the musical entertainment and dance music. It was reported that the Minister of Health Mr Nordmeyer, would be visiting the district this evening, when he would deliver an address. , , ~ . .. Moerakl.—A meeting was held at Moeraki to arrange the annual Labour Party dance, which will be held on Friday, August 30. Invitations to be present were sent to neighbouring branches. Waitakl.—Mr W. Malcolm presided over the monthly meeting of the Waitaki-Glen-avy branch. The secretary (Mrs A. I. Hewson) reported that donations had'been liberal, enabling the branch to contribute £2O to the campaign funds. It was decided to celebrate the first anniversary of the branch with a birthday party and dance on Saturday; August 24, and to invite Mr and Mrs Nordmeyer and members of neighbouring branches.
