PERTINENT QUESTIONS
LIST HANDED TO ALBANIA MUCH INFORMATION SOUGHT (Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 10. Sweden has applied for membership of the United Nations. At present nine applications are awaiting consideration by the Security Council. The United Nations Membership Committee has sent the Albanian representative in the United States, Colonel Tuk Jakova, seven questions regarding his country’s application for membership. They are as follows: First: Does Albania consider herself in a state of war with Greece? Secondly: If so, when does the Albanian Government think such a state will end? Thirdly: ' Will Albania accept the peaceful means of settlement of territorial claims and other disputes provided for in the United Nations Charter? , , Fourthly: Has Albania terminated the treaties existing between Albania and other States before April 7, 1939? Fifthly: What is Albania’s attitude towards the continued validity of treaties and agreements effective at that date between Albania and members of the United Nations? Sixthly: Can Albania give information about the Greek allegation of 21 incidents on the Greek-Albanian frontier . since early 1946, about the report that Ablanian batteries shelled two British warships on May 15, 1946, and about the report that Greek citizens are detained and ill-treated in Albanian concentration camps? Seventhly: Will Albania supply information about the general election held on December 2, 1945, including the total number of electors enrolled, the number who cast votes, and the distribution of the votes? Similar questions are being submitted to Outer Mongolia, which has not yet replied to the committee’s recent request for further information.
