DAMAGED AMERICAN SHIP
SALVAGE CLAIM LODGED (Rec. 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 8. The American Farmer entered Falmouth Harbour after battling against a heavy swell. She reached port under her own steam, but two tugs towed her through the narrow channel into the harbour. “I am terribly angry over the American action but don’t want to say too much until I have seen my firm’s solicitors,” said Captain Jan Milliers, captain of the Elizabeth, after arrival at Barry. “It is true that the Elizabeth got four hawsers on to the American Farmer, and we had lines on the American Fanner on the day when the American Ranger stepped in. We asked protection from the American destroyer Perry, but finally had to take instructions from the authorities.” >
The second mate, B. Valder, said there was no fighting between the Americans and the Elizabeth’s boarding party, but there were plenty of dark looks and curses.
The Ministry of Transport, on behalf of the owners of the Elizabeth, has sent in a salvage claim in connection with the vessel. Notification of the claim has been given by the Treasury solicitor to the owners of the American Farmer.
