A NEW COMET

TIMARU MAN’S DISCOVERY (P.A.) TIMARU, Aug. 8. What is believed to be a new , comet in the southern hemisphere has been discovered by a young Tijnaru amateur astronomer, Mr A. F. A. Jones, who has made a. full report to the Carter Observatory, Wellilngton. Mr Jones first picked up the comet at daybreak yesterdaywhile studying variable stars, but to make sure that he had not confused it with a star cluster, repeated his observations again yesterday morning. He is satisfied that he has found a new comet.
