BASKETBALL

The results of the basketball matches played at Timaru .last Saturday between North Otago and South Canterbury were: A Grade—South Canterbury 24, North Otago 5; B Grade—South Canterbury 23. North Otago 9. The A Grade match commenced well, with North Otago playing strongly against South Canterbury’s more experienced side. Side passing by the Oamaru players kept play even throughout the first half, the score at half time being South Canterbury 7, North Otago 5. Early in the second half, North Otago appeared to tire badly, and South Canterbury began to obtain a substantial lead. In the B Grade game, North Otago was matched against South Canterbury’s second A Grade team, and by quick passing and team combination they were able to put up a very good fight. North Otago had a greater share of the play than the final score would indicate. Teams for Saturday

Polytechnic.—B. Gray. M. Johnstone, D. Hollows, M. Bottle, M. 'McGregor, T. Goodall, A. Hamilton, S. Martin, B. Hamilton.
