Ministerial The Minister of Works, Mr R. Semple, arrived in Dunedin yesterday afternoon.' At night he addressed a public meeting. This morning he will announce the Government’s 10-year plan for Otago before representatives of public bodies in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall, and he will leave for Christchurch in the afternoon- The Minister was accompanied by Mr T. Mr Herbert Credgington left for Auckland on Saturday to join the Ruahine on his return to England. Mr Clark McConachy, the champion billiards player, left for Timaru on Saturday. He will appear subsequently in Christchurch, . and will leave for England early in September. Messrs E. F. Tibbetts, L. F. Percy, and Gordon Johnstone left on Saturday to attend the annual conference of the Dominion Executive of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association in Wellington this week.

Dr John W. Burton, president of the General Methodist Conference of Australia, will make a tour of New Zealand towards the end of the year, and will speak in Dunedin some time in October. Dr Burton is a distinguished missionary, and is a world authority on the Pacific.

The appointment of Mr Edward Brown, of Wellington, to the position of chief inspector of machinery and chief surveyor of ships in the Marine Department is announced. He succeeds Mr G. E. Breeze, who retired recently. Mr V. G. Boivin, assistant office engineer, has been appointed to succeed Mr Brown as office engineer at the head office in Wellington, and Mr R. N. Kerr, inspector of machinery in Wellington, has been appointed assistant office engineo* - .
