FALLEN COMRADES

SERVICE AT CENOTAPH TRIBUTE BY TRAMWAYMEN An impressive tribute to the memory of their comrades who fell in the war was paid by the staff of the City Corporation Tramways yesterday afternoon at the Cenotaph, where a short service was held. Led by the Kaikorai Band, a procession which included the transport manager, Mr L. C. Greig, inspectors, motormen and conductors, left the Market street sheds about 2.45 and marched along Princes street to the Centotaph, where a fairly large crowd had gathered.

The service at the Cenotaph was short. A brief address was given by Mr J. W. Anderson, liaison officer of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association, a hymn was played by the band, and wreaths were placed on the Cenotaph by Messrs W. Summers, J. McTegue, F. Galley, and J. Whitty. After Mr Anderson had led the assembly in prayer, “ The Last Post ” was sounded by bandsman A. M. Campbell. Among those present were the Mayor, Mr D. C. Cameron, the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, and the president of the Returned Services’ Association, Mr S. P. Cameron. The service was organised by Motorman Summers.
