BOXING

PROFESSIONAL CONTEST

(P.A.) BLENHEIM, July 28. Bill Brown (9.9) outpointed Clarrie Raynor (9.10) in a 10-round professional ligh't-weight contest last night. There were never more than a few points between the contestants, and they were even at the end of the ninth round. In the tenth Brown’s straight left gained him a narrow decision, which met with a mixed reception from the large attendance.

AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Otago Boxing Association will hold the 1946 Otago championships at 8 o’clock to-night in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hal). The entries are not as numerous as was expected, but the standard of boxing should be high and some excellent contests should be seen The middleweight and light-weight divisions are especially strong. The boxers to represent Otago at Auckland in the New Zealand championships will be chosen from the competitors. The doors will open at 7 o'clock.
