WAITAKI OLD BOYS
PLANS FOR WAR MEMORIAL There was a long discussion at the annual meeting of the Dud IP, , b ’(fovs’ of the Waitaki High School Old Boys Asscciation last night as fore most suitable form of a memorial for the ola boys of the school who fell in the Second World War. The rector, Mr J. T. Burrows, was present, and the president, Mr E. R. Garden, was in the chair. At present the school possesses, through the generosity of the old boys after the First World War. a dignified Hall of Memories perpetuating the memory of former pupils who gave their lives in that war? and the main points at issue were whether the new memorial should Ske the form of a library building, the architecture of which should harmonise with that of the hall, or suitable additions to the Hall of Memories in the form of a stained glass window and t a bear tag the names of those who had fallen On the motion of Mr S. D Smith, seconded by Mr M. S Myers, it was decided that a recommendation be made from the branch of the Central Executive that immediate steps be taken to raise funds for expenditure on a memorial in and on the Hal] of Memories, in ways to be suggested by the executive. The motion met with unanimous approval. In the annual report, which was adopted, reference was made to the McCullough Memorial, and it was stated that endeavours were being made by the executive to secure locally-made electric clocks for installation in the school.
