RETURN TO JOB
EX-SERVICEMAN’S RIGHT INTERPRETATION OF REGULATIONS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 26. The interpretation of the Occupational Re-establishment Emergency Regulations, 1940, was argued before Mr F. H. Levien, S.M., to-day, when the Auckland Bus Company pleaded not guilty to an information alleging that it had not reinstated an employee, after his return from military service. For the prosecution it was stated that an employee of the company, Michael Roy Davies, had entered camp in January, 1941, and on the day of his release in January, 1946, he had applied to the company for reinstatement. After six weeks he was told that the firm was overstaffed and would not be reinstating him. For the company it was submitted that it had sold two-thirds of its bus runs and under the regulations it was not compelled to reinstate an employee if changed circumstances rendered this impractical. Decision was reserved.
