DECLARED “BLACK”

WOOL FOR SPAIN TRADES COUNCIL'S DECISION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 26. A consignment of wool held in store at Auckland for shipment to Spain was to-day declared “black” by the Auckland Trades Council. Pending a decision from the council at a special meeting on Monday, its affiliated bodies were recommended not to handle any of the wool. The shipment consists of several hundred bales for Barcelona to be loaded at Auckland in the British steamer Samlyth, due from Bombay in ballast ftn Sunday, and will be transhipped from London to Spain. The president of the Auckland Trades Council, Mr A. Drennan, stated after the meeting that it had been convened at the request of the Drivers' Union, which had received many requests from members for a direction concerning the handling of the wool. This attitude was based on the decision of the World Trades Union, which had called on the democratic Governments of the world to declare a general embargo on the export'd goods to Franco Spain.

The matter will be referred to the national office of the Federation of Labour, and a protest has been forwarded by telegram to the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser. Representatives of the Auckland Trades Council will meet Mr Fraser during his visit to the city this week-end.
