BREACH OF PROMISE

WOMAN AWARDED DAMAGES (P.A.) PALMERSTON N., July- 25. In the Supreme Court to-day a jury awarded Flora Irene Macdonald £2400 damages for breach of promise against Alfred Leonard Pierard, of Palmerston North.

In the statement of claim Miss Macdonald stated that she and Pierard had agreed to marry. Relying on this promise, she allowed him to seduce her, the result being twin boys. She always ,had been and still was ready to marry Pierard, but he now refused. , ' . While admitting the agreement to marry, the defence was a denial of the other allegations, Pierard saying that.he was prepared to marry Miss Macdonald but she had made it a condition that they must separate immediately after. This was denied by Miss Macdonald.
