Southland has produced many good performers, and it seems strange that it cannot make its principal club a winner. Promoters of American trotting meetings have made further overtures to A. Holmes to take Gold Bar to the United Slates in September. Holmes’s reply will depend entirely upon the attitude of the Department of Agriculture, which at present bans the importation of American horses because of the alleged prevalence of “ sleeping sickness ” in the States.
