LITTLE APPRECIATION

WORK OF UNITED NATIONS MANY PEOPLE APATHETIC (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, July 25. The results of a Gallup poll taken simultaneously in Britain, the United States, France, and Canada reveal that in all four countries a majority of the people questioned are dissatisfied with the progress of the United Nations Organisation to date. In Britain 27 per cent, said they were satisfied, 38 per cent, were dissatisfied, and 34 per cent, did not know. In the United States 26 per cent, were satisfied, 49 per cent, were dissatisfied, and 25 per cent, were unsure. In each country not less than one in four were without a definite opinion upon the results achieved by U.N.O.

The News-Chronicle, in a leader on the poll, deplores the apathy which the results reveal. “ Whatever the reasons for this lack of impact upon so large a section of the public in all the four countries, it is a highly unsatisfactory state of affairs and one that it is most important to set right. The task of education through such organisations as the United Nations Organisation must be encouraged in every possible way,” the paper states.
