OTAGO HOSPITALS
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held last night, Dr D, G, McMillan presiding. There were present Messrs A. A. Reid, A. F. Quelcn, J. W. Dove, J. Bennetts A. Steel, Dr M. F. Blain, Mrs Norah Ross and Mi’s E, E. McMillan. The Director-general of Health, Dr M. H. Watt, advised that the Minister had approved of the following grants:— St. John Ambulance Association, £875; Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society, £25; Citizens’ Day Nursery, £25; Voluntary Blood Transfusion Society, £SO. The Director-general of Health advised that the Minister approved of the appointment of Dr Alan Wardale to the position of full-time surgeon in the Ear/Nose and Thfoat Department. The Dunedin Bowling Club wrote agreeing that the board should use part of its property for an additional wing at the Queen Mary Maternity Home.— It was decided to thank the club. The clerk of the deacons’ court of Knox Church advised that the committee could not agree to the use of Knox Church Sunday School as an emergency hospital during the erection of the new wing at the hospital.—Received.
The medical superintendent, Dr James Thomson, reported that 1093 patients were admitted to the Dunedin Hospital during June and 684 were discharged or died during the month, 409 patients remaining in the institution at the end of the period. A total of 233 operations were performed during the month.
