NOTES FROM RICCARTON
PLANS FOR SANSKRIT (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, July 9. The tracks at Riccarton have dried up in the last few days. There was a bit of sprinting on the trial grass this morning, without any serious trials. Pensacola. Bridge Acre, Golden Souvenir. Bruce. Double Cross, and Avonbridge were among the horses to run half-miles in about 54sec or 55sec.
Sanskrit has an engagement in the Winter Cup, but she is an unlikely starter. The present intention is to miss the Grand National meeting and to start her spring racing at Ashburton. The Defaulter Ally may be a good performer on firm tracks next season. R. Wilson has Pensacola* looking well, and his form in recent sprints suggests that he will have to be kept in mind for the Winter Cup. Trueway showed signs of soreness after his race at Washdyke, and he will be allowed to miss his Waimate engagement. F. D. Jones will rest him for a few days, but will school the Nightmarch gelding next week, in preparation for the hurdle race at the South Canterbury Hunt meeting. ,T. C. Tomkinson has Wane doing good work, and he should be at his best next month. He has shaped well in a few schools over the pony hurdles, but jumping races will not be thought of till next year. L. Cavalier has an addition to his team, Stand To having arrived from the North Island. He is a five-year-old bv Night Raid from Lady Clarenceux,‘and he has had some racing this season, without showing any form. He has been spelling for a few months. At the Stonyhurst Stud, Babel, by The Ace —Scrimmage, has slipped twin foals to Finis.
