SERVICES RECOGNISED
MR AND MRS DONALD BURNS
The’ valuable services of Mr and Mrs Donald Burns to the Athletic Football Club were recognised by the, presentation on Monday night of two fireside chairs by Mr W. M. Uttley, on behalf of members of the club and supporters, at a social evening tendered by club and Jubilee Committee officials. In making the presentation, Mr Uttley referred to the sterling services Mr and Mrs Burns had performed for the club and for Rugby in North Otago over a long period of years. Mr Burns suitably replied. Of interest to all present was the screening by Mr J. Firman of the film he had taken during the jubilee celebrations. Dancing to music supplied by the Silvistrini Orchestra took place during the evening, interspersed with various items.
CAPTAIN H. S. COX
To mark the retirement of Captain H. S. Cox from the position of harbour master, members of the Oamaru Harbour Board and fiends met at a social function yesterday afternoon, when a presentation was made to the guest by the chairman of the board, Mr W. M. Cooper. Mr Cooper referred to the fine service Captain Cox had given to Oamaru during his 25 years in the appointment, and expressed pleasure that he was remaining in Oamaru during his retirement. Mr A. Chapman was in the chair at the function, and other speakers were Messrs B. B. Walton, D. Williams, McDonald, R. A. McDowell, and G. P. Cuttriss. Mr A. Walker extended thanks to Captain Cox for the co-operation he had given him as manager of the Union Steam Ship Company in Oamaru, and his staff. Captain Cox replied.
