H.M.S. EURYALUS
VISIT TO DOMINION WAR OPERATIONS RECALLED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 7. One of the few units of the British Pacific Fleet which took part in all the fleet’s operations against the Japanese, the Dido class cruiser Euryalus, arrived at Auckland to-day from Sydney. The ship, which is commanded by Captain R. S. Warne, R.N., will stay in port until next Sunday, when she will leave for Hongkong.
The Euryalus, which has a displacement of 5500 tons and carries about 700 officers and men, was commissioned from Glasgow in June, 1944. She spentsome time at Scapa Flow before she took part in the carrier strikes off Norway in December, 1944. The cruiser escorted the Rimutaka from Liverpool to Colombo when the latter ship was carrying the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester to Australia. After joining the. British Pacific Fleet, the Euryalus was engaged with carrier task forces and took part in operations at Palambang early in 1945. In July and August she took part in strikes off Japan.
