CARDINAL’S WARNING LEARNING THREATENED (Rec. 7 p.m) LONDON, July 5. “Throughout most of Europe the State is abrogating to itself all the directions of the human mind,” said Cardinal Griffin at a luncheon after Mr Anthony Eden, as chancellor of Birmingham University, had conferred on him an honorary doctorate of laws. Cardinal Griffin added that science was conscribed in the name of research and national security. Literature was controlled for the sake of that ugly thing propaganda, and if people were not on their guard, learning also would be fettered in the name of liberty and equality. ■
