BRISBANE STRIKES WORKERS VICTIMISED (Rec. 11 p.m.) . BRISBANE, July 5. “The Communist Party has made a guinea-pig of the meat union,” said the Premier, Mr E. M. Hanlon, to-day. “I know there are not many Communists in the meat union, but this upheaval is a Communist-inspired move to eliminate arbitration. There are other industries run by Communists, but they did not want to take the risk of striking until they saw what happ'ened to the meat union. It is time the meat men woke up to the fact that they are the suffering tools of these anti-Australians. While I am Premier the Arbitration Court will not be endangered. I went on strike and lost my job in the railways in 1912 in the fightf or arbitration. I am not going to see this troublesome Red minority damage a system which honest Queensland workers fought to obtain. I am certain that the secret ballot will be successful. Meat workers are sick of the business, but . they have not been given a chance to say so without being victimised.”
