CLASH OF DATES
MATCHES IN CHRISTCHURCH KIWIS AND ENGLISH TEAM (P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 5. The Kiwi Rugby Union team, according to its itinerary, is to play in Christchurch on July 27. Tlie English Rugby League team is to play a South Island representative League team in the same city on the same day. This clash of dates was the subject of a special meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League Council m Auckland to-day, as a result of which the secretary of the New Zealand League, Mr W. O. Carlaw, sent the following telegram to Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union Council:— " Surprised at your action in arranging the Kiwi match in Christchurch to clash with the English team to the detriment of the avowed object of the Kiwi tour—viz., the patriotic funds. We are forced to adhere to the Englishmen’s itinerary. Owing to their limited stay in New Zealand, the travel and accommodation arrangements cannot be altered. Otherwise, in view of our continuous support of anything for patriotic purposes, we would alter our arrangements, which have been ■ advertised for the past month. In the j existing circumstances, I would suggest that you amend your itinerary.”
