TOMAHAWK CAMP
ACCOMMODATION NOW FULL RENTAL OF UNITS ADJUSTED Sixteen married couples, with 10 children, are at present accommodated in the transit housing camp at Tomahawk, and it is expected that two more couples will be installed at the week-end, which will make the camp full. Most of the couples are housed in single units, but there are four living in two double units. None of the tenants given accommodation in the four weeks since the camp has bqen opened has left to take up alternative accommodation.
The City Council provides the camp with free electric power and coke for heating purposes, and the tenants have expressed themselves as well satisfied with the communal system of dining and of sharing the work of the camp. The women wash dishes, and the men do “ camp fatigues,” filling and lighting coppers, and carrying away refuse for collection. The mess room and cookhouse, as well as the washing and bathing facilities, are housed in separate blocks.
It was stated yesterday that the rentals which were payable by the couples accommodated at the camp have been adjusted, at the request of the tenants, according to the- area occupied. The rents will be subject to review by the City Council after one month.
