MILDER WEATHER

LOCAL MARKET REPORT Conditions have been milder in North Otago this week. The ground is still fairly damp, and agricultural work in preparation for spring crops is still difficult. There' has also been some rain during the week. Wheat.—Growers are beginning to wonder whether further sowing of wheat vWll be possible this spring, but the weather conditions prevailing this month will be the deciding factor. There is still a fair quantity of seed wheat held in the stores, but only X 7 and Fyfe Tuscan will be sown from now on. There is sufficient wheat in stores for most purposes, but poultry feeders will have to draw on store stocks before the end of the year. Oats.—Some odd lines of white oats have been threshed recently from stack. These are readily taken up by merchants at the ceiling price where the quality warrants it.

Chaff.—A report from Auckland states that on account of heavy shipments it is not possible to place chaff there in the meantime.

Seeds.—The dresing of white clover, Montgomery red, and cowgrass is progressing, but germinations and purity tests from the Government SeedV Testing Station are very slow in coming to hand. Merchants are not prepared to operate without these tests. There has been some shelling of red clover from the stack this week, and in some cases up to two bagsto the acre are reported for cowgrass. Owirig to the difficulty in harvesting with headers, there is a fair proportion of broken seed in the Montgomery clover so far.
