CAPTAIN’S IMPRESSIONS “ Comparisons are very hard to make and perhaps not good form, but I think with its record and style of play, the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Rugby team was as good, or almost as good as the 1938 All Black side with which I toured Australia,” said Major C. K. Saxton, captain of the Kiwi side, in an interview with a Daily Times reporter yesterday.. Major Saxton, who returned to Dunedin with his wife and small son on Thursday, began his career in representative football as an Otago half-back, and he was behind the scrum when Otago won the Ranfurly Shield from Canterbury in 1936. Subsequently he played for South Canterbury and Southland, being captain of. the Southland team which successfully defended the Ranfurly Shield in 1939. During the early part of the war he also represented Canterbury. He played for South Canterbury against the 1937 Springboks.
