ENGLISH RUGBY UNION
DOMINION REPRESENTATIVE MR WRAY’S RETIREMENT (N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent) (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, June 14. After representing the New Zealand Rugby Union on the English Rugby Union for 26 years, Mr C. J. Wray, formerly of Wanganui, has retired. “I am,” he said, “ getting a little bit past the time for braving the east wind in the west stand at Twickenham.” To mark his retirement and in appreciation of his work, the New Zealand Union presented him with an inscribed silver cigarette case. It was handed to him by Mr J. Parker, the famous 1924 All Black, at a pleasant informal gathering arranged by Mr A. Turner, the London manager of the New Zealand Fruit Board. There were also present Messrs A. B. Congdon, M. Smith, S. G. Bonsor, and S. F. Cooper, secretary of the English Rugby Union, and A. J. Trollope, a member of the English Rugby Union Committee. Paying a tribute to Mr Wray, Mr Turner described him as "the youngest old man in London.”
