Imprisonment for Desertion Edward Horace Allan, aged 23, pleaded guilty to a charge of deserting from the ship Hopepeak at Lyttelton on June B.—Senior Sergeant H. Hogg said that a warrant was issued for the arrest of the defendant on June 10, but on the following day he gave himself up to the police in Dunedin.— The defendant said he did not wish to go back on another ship, but desired to remain in New Zealand. — It is not a question whether you want to stay, but whether you are wanted here,” said the magistrate, who sentenced the defendant to one month’s imprisonment. Default of Maintenance Frank Elias Lloyd, who was charged with the disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears amounting to £3O, was convicted and sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended provided that he paid £2 by June 21 and £2 each week until the arrears were paid off.
