SHIPS IMMOBILISED
LARGE NUMBER AT SYDNEY DISPUTES AND HEAVY RAIN (Rec. 11.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Apl. 19. Continuous rain and the industrial disputes have immobilised 45 ships in Sydney Harbour over the Easter. Most of the vessels are overseas freighters, and many have high priority cargoes of flour, meat, and other, food for distressed countries, and urgently needed coal for Victoria and South- Australia. Yesterday men offered' freely for work, but heavy rain cancelled work. There will be no call for labour to-day, and the prospects when calls are made to-morrow are not considered bright. For many weeks now waterside worker's have disregarded the Saturday call. The Priority Committee has decided that 19 urgent ships should be worked over the holidays. The shipping authorities are resigned to the probability that no labour can be obtained for the majority of these, and that the. ships will stay immobilised until Tuesday.
