NEW SWIMMING BATHS

CAVERSHAM SCHOOL’S MEMORIAL The construction of a new swimming pool at the Caversham School has been completed, and the official opening ceremony will be performed by the Minister of Defence, Mr • F Jones, on Saturday, April 13. The Mayor, Mr D. C. Cameron, will be present, and among the organisations represented will be the Otago Swimming Centre, which is arranging a programme of swimming and life-sav-ing events. The baths are being dedicated to the memory of the former pupils of the school who lost their lives in the war. ’ The pool is 60 feet long ’and 18 reei wide. It is equipped with the latest appliances, and varies from 3ft to 3ft 6in in depth, which is regarded as ideal for instructional purposes. The sides are constructed of Hume pipe staves, with a concrete base. Suitable approaches have been construe ted in concrete, there is adequate dressing accommodation, and an automatic pumping water supply enables the purity of the water to be maintained at a thoroughly hygienic level. The water supply is produced from a bore which has been put down in the school grounds. 'A foot bath has been installed. The contractor for . the work was Mr James Donaldson, of Dunedin. The cost was approximately £IOOO. including a subsidy of £2OO from the Government.
