TRIP TO AUSTRALIA

PRIME MINISTER’S BRIEF VISIT (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Apl. 1. The Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, announced to-day that he was planning to pay a brief visit to Australia next week to see the Australian Prime Minister, Mr J. B. Chifley, and the Minister of External Affairs, Dr H. V. Evatt, before they left for the Prime Ministers’ Conference. He would be accompanied by the Minister of Finance, Mr W. Nash, who would also be on his way to London. Mr Fraser said the purpose of his visit would be to discuss briefly and informally matters of common interest arising from his own recent visit abroad, and also other problems relating particularly to the Pacific, which may be discussed at the forthcoming meeting in London. Mr Fraser said he did not expect to be ,away from New Zealand for more than three or four days.
