THE NEW EDITOR

Sir James Hutchison is succeeded as editor by Mr John Moffett, who joined the staff of the Daily Times in 1929. Mr Moffett was born at Invercargill in 1905, the son of Mr George 1. Moffett, and educated at State schools in that city, and at Christ’s College, Christchurch. He commenced in

journalism as a cadet reporter on the Southland Daily News, and while still under 21 became a general reporter on the Press, Christchurch. He was later promoted to cable sub-editor, and contributed leading articles on foreign affairs to the Press. He came to the Daily Times as a member of the editorial staff, his principal duties being leader writing and book reviewing. Last year he was appointed associate editor. , _ . Mr Moffett visited Great Britain and the Continent in 1935, when he had an opportunity of studying newspaper production in Fleet street. He was, until the war years, a regular contributor to the Literary Supplement of The Times, London. He is the author of a monograph on Russell Clark, the artist, formerly of Dunedin.
