HIGH SCHOOL CRICKET

TIMARU v. OTAGO MATCH ENDS IN DRAW The annual cricket match between teams representing the Otago Boys’ High School and the Timaru Boys’ High School was continued at the Otago Boys’ High School ground yesterday, and resulted in a draw. The wicket was very slow, owing to the heavy rain of the previous night, and the ball was inclined to rise sharply, much to the discomfiture of the batsmen. Timaru, in their first innings, were all out for 73. This rather small total resulted mainly from steady boWling on the part of J. Robertson, who opened the attack for Otago. He bowled 14 overs, six of which were maidens, and took five wickets for 18 runs. C, Graham also bowled well to take two wickets for 28 runs. Otago replied with 104 in its first innings, of which C. Graham made 29 and R. Smith 23. Graham was shaping quite confidently until he stepped down the wicket to a goodlength ball and was stumped. The best of the Timaru bowlers were R. Wakefield with four wickets for 23 runs and R. Bowden, with two for 25. The Timaru team made a bad start in their second innings, with two wickets down for two runs, and it was not until R. Wakefield and J. Dore decided to attack the bowling that the position was retrieved. Both Wakefield and Dore were undefeated with 31 and 42 respectively. Timaru declared its innings closed with five wickets down for 103 runs, leaving Otago 74 runs to make in 30 minutes. Robertson again bowled well for Otago, and dismissed all five of the Timaru batsmen for 24 runs. At stumps, Otago had lost one wicket for 29 runs. Scores :
