THE HOUSING SHORTAGE

Sir,—ln reply to “ Puzzled "on the subject of the housing shortage, I would like to explain why one couple at least did not reply to her offer in last Saturday's column. We are a couple, but in June a baby is expected. We have answered reams of advertisements and walked miles in our search for a place. As soon as our prospective landlady is told of the coming of the infant, we are rejected. My husband served Overseas for over four years. I would be interested to know if the lady who offered a home for a married couple would have taken us in when she heard of the event in June. We have given up answering advertisements for couples as hopeless.—l am, etc., Disheartened House-hunter.
