THE GENERAL STAFF HOUSE OF LORDS DEBATE LONDON, Mar. 27 A case for a more effective General’ Staff controlling all the Empire’s armed forces, was put before the House of Lords as a key to the atomic age defence plan. Lords Hutchison and Chatfield sponsored the proposal. Which the Government rejected on the ground that, it would annoy the dominions. , , ~ Lo r d Addison, who announced the rejection, said there were regional problems on which everyone was willing to co-operate but that was quite different from having a high-powered group of. superior persons who might give orders to independent-minded nations That would not work. The Government was working on many proposals “ which will be produced as soon as the state of the world makes it possible.”
