Sir,—When considering the proposed alterations to this road, councillors and those concerned should take into account the fact that it will be only a compara-' tively short time before this branch rail service is discontinued. A railways commercial agent who recently made contact with farmers gave this impression as the line has not been paying its way for some time. Farmers have been without proper postal, telephone, and rail conveniences for years, and now that it is possible to build a good straight road to Oamaru they should back it strongly.—l am. etc..
