THE CLUTHA CATCHMENT AREA

Sir,—At a recent combined meeting of the Lawrence and Waitahtma branches of Federated Farmers an appropriate resolution was passed and forwarded to the Rivers Control and Soil Conservation Council, to Mr W. A. J, Davey Temuka, farmers’ representative on that council, and to Messrs Bodkin, Roy, and McDonald. This presents a golden opportunity for these members of Parliament to remove the threat to their constituents in the proposal to saddle a handful of .ratepayers in the Clutha River watershed with the responsibility of rehabilitating three-quarters of Otago. My own candid opinion is that the Government official responsible for this iniquitous constitution of the catchment board has scant knowledge of to-day's physical condition of the Clutha watershed and completely ignored the financial resources of the ratepayers concerned. —I am, etc., John A. Robertson, President, Lawrence Federated Farmers. Evans Flat. March 25.
