SCENE IN COURT
GOERING’S TIRADE
(Rec. 1.30 a.m.) NUREMBERG, Mar. 2T. Goenng and Ribbentrop figured in a courtroom scene before resumption of War Crimes Tribunal. When Ribbentrop entered the dock Goering rose, deliberately turned his back, and conversed for a few minutes with pla soners in the back row. He then suddenly turned on Ribbentrop and broke into a torrent of angry words. Both men engaged for the next 10 minutes in a heated argument, in which Ribbentrop showed no sign of the speech difficulties to which his counsel referred yesterday. Reuter’s correspondent surmises that Goering’s attitude reflected his displeasure at the anti-Hitler line developed during Ribbentrop’s defence.
The German Foreign Office secretary, Steengracht, resuming his evidence, said von Papen had told him peace was impossible while Hitler and the Nazi Party remained in power Von Papen regarded the outbreak of war as the worst possible disaster for Germany, for the world, and for Hitler. Others criticised von Papen for the weakness of his views.
