THE TASMAN SERVICE
IMPROVEMENTS IMMINENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 6. Accusing Captain Ivan Holyman, managing director of the Australian National Airways. Ltd., of invading his company’s territory with the DC4 Skymaster which was over Wellington yesterday after bringing 41 passengers from Australia, the vice-chairman of Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd. Mr C. G. White, last night outlined his firm’s proposals for the operation of the Tasman service in the future. He forecast a greatly increased service at a reduced cost soon. It was expected, Mr White said, that if the Tasman Company was entrusted with the carrying on of the service, three new Sunderland Mark V flyingboats would be put into operation and they were capable of carrying a minimum of 30 passengers in the greatest comfort, as they provided ample room and space to move about, and their speed would be greater than that of the present machines. As soon as the British Tudors II s were available it was intended to change over to these machines, and the directors were informed that their performance and comfort would quite equal that of the Skymaster, which had been so widely publicised.
