SYNTHETIC MEAT
TO BE MADE FROM WOOD AUSTRIAN INVENTOR’S CLAIM ♦ (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Mar. 6. “ Synthetic meat ” made from wood has been manufactured by the inventor of synthetic oil, Professor Friederich Bergius, says the Exchange Telegraph’s Vienna correspondent. The meat consists of a yeast which contains chemically' as much fat, albumen and calories as meat. The new substitute will be marketed in the shape of flakes to be added to soups and gravies. The inventor is also working on the production of artificial cutlets. The manufacture of yeast will begin this month at an artificial wood factory at Lanzing, near Vienna.
