NEW MOTOR SHIP
KANNA’S MAIDEN VOYAGE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Feb. 20. The latest addition to New Zealand’s coastal shipping fleet will be the motor vessel Kanna, which ieft Middlesborough Yorkshire on Sunday en route to New Zealand on her maiden voyage. The ship, which is owned by the Union Steam Ship Company, is expected in New Zealand early in April, and will be engaged in the Wellington-Lyttelton-Port Chalmers trade. Originally bu ; it for the Admiralty for use in the South-east Asia Command as a supply ship, the Kanna is 925 tons gross, 210 feet long, and has a beam of 36ft 6in, with a depth of 21ft Bin. She is powered by Diesel engines situated aft. Her cargo capacity is 85,200 cubic feet, or about 1260 tons deadweight. Her maximum speed is lOjj knots. A sister ship, the Katui, is also to join the Union Company’s fleet, and is expected to sail from England next month.
