NEARING THE THOUSAND

On the first day of the match between Carisbrook A and DunedinCarisbrook B, W. A. Hadlee was absent on holiday, but a place was kept for him in the Carisbrook team, and he made an opportune and attractive 61 not out on Saturday, his driving on both sides of the wicket being crisp and forceful. His total took him only 53 minutes to make, and brought his aggregate for the season in all matches to over 900 runs. Hadlee also continued his success with the ball, taking two wickets for 22 runs, and he fielded in his usual safe manner.
