A lifeboat, answering the call was fighting its way through tremendous seas, whipped up by a 60-mile-an-hour gale, when the Empire Mombasa reported that she was proceeding under her own steam. The lifeboat was recalled. The Empire Mombasa was on her maiden voyage.
