OFFICER FOR DUNTROON

STAFF APPOINTMENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. It was announced to-day by the Minister of Defence, Mr F. Jones, that Captain (Temporary Major) W. R. K. Morrison is to replace Major R. B. Dawson on the instructional staff at the Royal Military College at Duntroon, Australia. Mr Jones said that Duntroon was a training ground for officers of the New Zealand regular forces, and that 10 years ago it had been decided, in agreement with the Australian Govern--ment, to provide New Zealand officer graduates on the instructional staff at the college. By that means the New Zealand Government felt it could keep in close touch with the training methods of the college, and it also provided that prospective New Zealand staff officers would receive firsthand instruction in military administration as it affected the New Zealand military forces. The policy was to relieve the officer detached for duty at the college every three years. Captain Morrison served overseas with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. for three years and was twice wounded. He was selected to undergo a course at the Middle East Staff. College at Haifa, and was subsequently appointed to General Sir Claude Auchinleck’s staff. Latterly he had been general- staff officer, second grade, at Army Headquarters, Wellington. Captain Morrison was awarded the D.S.O.
