NEWS FROM RICCARTON

MISS MEDLEY’S PREPARATION (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 8. T. H. Gillett has Miss Medley in strong work again, in preparation for engagements at Trentham. She looks well after her racing at Auckland. Montezuma has been suffering for some time from a split hoof and as it is causing a lot of trouble this week, F. D. Jones may not take her to Trentham. Silver Sal will go north to run in the Wellington Cup, in which the Riccarton apprentice, 11. Ford, will be her rider. Blue Trout should carry only 7.5 in the Wellington Stakes, but it is probable that she will have 31b. overweight in order to secure the services of her regular rider, C. T. Wilson. Palfrey was sore at the close of his racing at Auckland, so T. H. Gillett did not nominate him for Trentham. He will be freshened up for autumn engagements. Juriste disappointed on the West Coast, and the Solicitor-General mare has been sent home for a spell.
