Mr R. A. Johnston left yesterday morning for Christchurch. Captain L. Rundle, of the Salvation Army, Dunedin North, has been appointed to the Lower Hutt City Corps. With Mrs Rundle and family he will transfer early in February. Flight Sergeant Harold Freeman, who has been serving with the Royal Australian Air Force, will return to New Zealand by the Athlone Castle on a visit to his mother, who resides in London street, Green Island. Passengers who arrived from the north by plane yesterday were Mr J. H. Gillies, Mr and Mrs J. W. Hayes, Mr McDonald, Miss Chisholm and Mr H. Gardner, from Wellington; Mr and Mrs A. Dunlop, from Auckland; and Mr Campbell, from Christchurch. Passengers for the south were Mr and Mrs A. Dunlop and Mr B. Mason. A number of appointments concerning school inspectors in the Auckland district are announced. Mr H. McChesney, senior inspector of schools for the Auckland district, whose retirement after 45 years’ service in educational work will take effect from the end of March, will be succeeded by Mr A. R. Merrington, at present senior inspector of schools at New Plymouth. Two Auckland inspectors arc being transferred on promotion. Mr A. H. Denne has been appointed senior inspector at Napier, and Mr H. G. Johnston is to become senior inspector at Wanganui.
