AMMUNITION EXPLODES

MARLBOROUGH TRAGEDY A NUMBER OF CASUALTIES (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 2. Following an explosion among wagons of captured German ammunition at the Marlborough railway siding, one person is dead and one seriously injured, and 10 are missing. The ammunition was being removed from a United States Army dump. Fire spread through the wagons following the first explosion. Three hours later all personnel were withdrawn. The explosions are continuing. Rescuers defied the explosions in an attempt to reach the injured men. Residents of houses surrounding the area have been evacuated.
